About the Creative Adventures Tour Company

Creative Adventures New Zealand operates high quality small group tours & private guided vacations for active, mature travellers seeking luxury, hiking, wildlife & cultural experiences.

Creative Adventures is a small, independent, New Zealand tour company. In 1999 Richard Wells and Simon Henshaw started with the name Get Down Under Tours Ltd and a strong desire to share New Zealand's relaxed lifestyle and incredible nature with international visitors. And we knew we could provide a more personal and authentic experience than large coach tour operators.

In 2007 we rebranded to Creative Adventures New Zealand, a brand that better describes our style: innovative itineraries based on guests' interests; authentic New Zealand experiences; high quality service for more discerning international travellers.

Since we began, with our team of dedicated guides, we have served a variety of international guests. Past guests have included couples, families, wedding parties and sports teams.

Our largest private tour was for 124 people from a dozen countries attending a world agricultural conference. During the 24 day conference-tour we explored the North and South Islands.

We enjoy our small group of South Pacific islands, and the easygoing, outdoor Kiwi lifestyle. Our own international adventures have convinced us we have a very special little country down here, and that the best way to discover it is in a small group, professionally guided, with a relaxed, unhurried itinerary.

Our commitment to New Zealand's environment means that conservation principles have influenced all our decisions and actions.

We don't host thousands of guests each year, and we don't want to. By keeping our business small we can provide better, more personal service that will surprise you in many different ways. Simon Henshaw (39) became addicted to travel after trips to South East Asia during his Victoria University days. Further adventures took him to much of Western Europe and a variety of work in Turkey, Germany, Holland and Japan. He loves yachting and multi-day hiking trips. Simon has worked in Hospitality & Tourism for over 14 years. Besides managing the day-to-day operations of the company his role includes designing itineraries and guiding as many guests as possible. Simon's wife Phillippa is the Sales & Marketing Manager for a local Nelson company.

Simon has recently authored a new guidebook called "Travelling New Zealand ~ A guide to 45 top visitor destinations", just published and available in book stores throughout New Zealand. Click here to learn more about this book..

Richard Wells’ (39) globe-trotting ways have seen him travelling Europe and living in Japan, England and USA. Richard’s main role is international marketing along with guiding when he can. Leisure time is spent scuba-diving and exploring the great outdoors in general. He has a Business Degree from Massey University and is married to Kuniko.
