Creative Adventures selects boutique accommodation
throughout New Zealand to make your escorted private or small group
tour just that much more special.
Your New Zealand experience should not end when you arrive at your accommodation in the afternoon. We like to offer you something special, something unique - hosts who have the time to add excellent personal service to the luxurious facilities, the natural settings, whatever makes a property stand apart from it’s peers.
Our overwhelming belief is that friendly, personal service is more often found in luxury lodges, character B&Bs and private hotels. Selected B&Bs make a practice of balancing service with privacy so if you don’t feel up to socialising there is no awkwardness – these are not home-stays.
“It was a fabulous holiday! The personal touches
made it unique and unforgettable” – Joyce W
Location is an important factor when we select your accommodation. You may find yourself in a secluded valley surrounded by native forest, one jump away from a sandy beach, or dwarfed by mountains. During the few nights you spend in a city, your hotel or B&B will be where the action is, with shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions nearby.
New Zealand uses the “Qualmark” system to grade accommodation with 1 - 5 stars, within different style categories e.g. Hosted B&B, Hotel, Exclusive.
For our scheduled tours we arrange accommodation with a 4-5 star average standard. For private tours, accommodation is selected to suit guest’s personal travelling style and tour budget. All rooms have a Queen/King bed or two Single beds as you prefer, a private ensuite bathroom, and a multitude of convenient, modern features.
Below are a few examples of our preferred properties categorized by style and cost as best as possible. Some properties suit several categories, and many offer a special experience that surpasses their “category” and makes them unique. Within each category there are properties of varying style and price.
Exclusive Luxury Lodges
Properties in this category are world-renowned, catering to the very top end of the market. As the category name implies, they offer exclusivity with usually a small number of rooms, and a standard of luxury and service that justifies their NZ$1,000 plus room rate. They are often located in remote, natural places, with guided fly-fishing or hunting, a restaurant onsite and helicopter landing areas.

Huka Lodge, Taupo www.hukalodge.com
Treetops Lodge, Rotorua www.treetops.co.nz
Fiordland Lodge www.fiordlandlodge.co.nz
Luxury Bed & Breakfasts
These properties are also very special, often demanding a 6th star while New Zealand’s quality system “Qualmark” only goes up to 5 stars. Priced between NZ$350 – $1000, they often have the character and class of carefully restored and luxuriously appointed historic buildings, or perhaps an out-of-the-way location combined with a little pampering.

The Resurgence, Nelson www.resurgence.co.nz
Premium Bed & Breakfasts
I keep using the word “special” in describing each category, but I need another word as all our preferred properties have something special about them. These premium B&Bs are priced between NZ$250 – $450.

Hilton Hotel, Auckland www.auckland.hilton.com
The George Hotel, Christchurch www.thegeorge.com
Sofitel Hotel, Queenstown www.sofitelqueenstown.com
Premium Hotels
This category of hotel can be described as not quite 5 star standard but with attributes, usually their location, that make them a good option. Some are in cities, some are in smaller towns.
Duke of Marlborough Hotel, Bay of Islands www.theduke.co.nz
Bolton Hotel, Wellington www.boltonhotel.co.nz
Te Weheka Inn, Fox Glacier www.teweheka.co.nz

Deluxe Motels / Motor-Lodges
A high quality motel or motor-lodge is often the best accommodation option in some locations. Room prices can be very reasonable and are a good way to divert funds to other tour costs and keep budgets under control. The term “motel” can imply poor quality or service in some countries but the properties we select do not compromise on service or security. The décor and facilities compare well to any room in a major hotel with the added benefit of kitchen facilities.
