Options to Personalise our Scheduled Tours

The Creative Adventures New Zealand Tour Company operates high quality private and small group tours. Our style of dedicated service & flexibility are hard to beat and make your holiday very special.

There are many ways you can personalise your New Zealand tour, and our itineraries are designed to allow for this. Please read the following ideas and select the ones you like. These can be arranged after your tour booking is confirmed, at an extra cost.

DO OUR TOUR DATES SUIT YOUR TRAVEL DATES?

If not, we are happy for you to join our tours on Day 2, Day 3 etc, and to leave the tour a little early if necessary. We will adjust your tour price to reflect this.

EXTRA MID-TOUR OPTIONS

Tranz Alpine Train from Christchurch to the West Coast
During our scheduled tours we drive from Christchurch through the Southern Alps to Greymouth on the West Coast. Along the way we stop for short walks, spectacular views and a picnic lunch.

As an alternative, if you enjoy scenic train journeys, you may instead like to jump aboard the Tranz Alpine train. This train travels through different but beautiful rural and alpine scenery. If you would like to experience this trip we are happy to book it for you. NZ$85 per person.  (Note, there are no hiking opportunities during the journey.)

Trout Fishing
New Zealand is renowned as a great place to fly-fish for the elusive Brown or Rainbow trout. If you would like to try your luck and skill we can arrange a professional fishing guide for a half-day or one-day trip. Fishing locations include lowland rivers and isolated mountain streams. Your guide can provide a fishing licence, picnic lunch and all the fishing gear you might need. Prices range from NZ$500 for a half-day and NZ$850 for a full day.

A round of Golf
New Zealand is blessed with a huge number and variety of excellent golf courses. Green fees range from the more rural NZ$10 course where sheep are a standard hazard, and perhaps NZ$150 for championship courses with ocean or mountain views. Clubs, trolleys, carts, shoes etc are available for hire.

If you would like to sneak in a round of golf we can make all the necessary arrangements.

Discover Doubtful Sound

Milford Sound is only 1 of 13 spectacular fiords in the Fiordland National Park. After Milford, Doubtful Sound is the most accessible fiord and in many ways even more special. A trip to Doubtful Sound includes a cruise across Lake Manapouri, tour of the Manapouri Underground Power Station and a second cruise through the fiord. This remote wilderness trip can be added to certain scheduled tours, as a Fiordland-bonus, including transport connections to catch up with the group. The cost for this all-day trip is NZ$285 per person.

OPTIONS BEFORE OR AFTER YOUR TOUR

Extra Accommodation
You may like to stay an extra day or two in one of the gateway cities before or after your tour ~ recover from jet-lag, pursue some special interests. Some of our recommendations are shown on the Accommodation page. We can also suggest very special lodges and private resorts in isolated wilderness or rural locations. Details and prices for these are available upon request.

Multi-day Wilderness Hiking Trips
New Zealand has an extensive network of multi-day hiking tracks giving access to some of the most spectacular scenery in the world (remember ~ New Zealand has no wild carnivorous animals!). Some of the most famous and popular tracks include

• Milford Track (Fiordland)
• Routeburn Track (Fiordland)
• Abel Tasman Coast Track (Nelson)
• Heaphy Track (Nelson)

• Hump Ridge Track (Southland)

These hikes can be arranged before or after your Creative Adventures tour. All you need is reasonably good fitness and a sense of adventure...

• 3-5 days in duration
• coastal or mountainous locations
• walk the track independently or guided
• stay in basic, shared huts or private, ensuite rooms
• fully catered or cook-your-own meals
• some gear available for hire

Some tracks such as the Milford Track are very popular between November and March. The number of hikers is restricted to preserve the experience so we recommend booking as early as possible (6 months or more).

Costs vary: for independent hikers between NZ$10 and $30 per person per night, or for fully-guided trips between NZ$600 and $2,200 per person. Please contact us for more information on the options.
